Predictions for Louisville women’s basketball’s NCAA Tournament: Where may the Cards play?
Louisville hosted the opening two rounds of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament for eight years running. The Cardinals made it to the Final Four twice throughout that time.
Last season, U of L finished as a 5-seed, ending its run as a top-four seed. Still, the Cards advanced to the Elite Eight for the seventh time in a row.
All indications suggest that Jeff Walz’s team will once more begin the NCAA Tournament on the road this year. The Cardinals are currently ranked as a 6-seed by ESPN and The Sporting News; before the ACC Tournament, CBS Sports had Louisville ranked as a 5-seed.
U of L ranks fifth among ACC teams and 23rd overall in the NET rankings. It was ready to host the first two championship games of the
11th-seeded Auburn of Corvallis, Oregon, is predicted to face U of L in the first round. No. 3 seed Oregon State will serve as the host. These predictions meant that the Cardinals would play the Beavers or 14th-seeded California Baptist next, and if they won, they would have the opportunity to go to Albany, New York, for the second weekend of the tournament.
Louisville is expected to play North Carolina if it wants to make it to the Sweet 16 for the eighth consecutive year. One of the nine ACC teams that is seen as a lock for the NCAA Tournament is the Tar Heels, who are projected as the seventh seed. Three teams in the league—Notre Dame, North Carolina State, and Virginia Tech—are predicted to be among the top four seeds.
