The college football community is in mourning after Texas A&M-Commerce wide receiver Keith Miller was found dead in his apartment, the school announced.

Miller played on the team for two seasons and was named team captain last season.

Authorities are still investigating to determine Miller’s cause of death.

“We are heartbroken by Keith’s unexpected passing,” Texas A&M-Commerce head coach Clint Dolezal said in a statement. “Keith was a beloved father, son, teammate, and student-athlete. We extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved him at this very difficult time.”

Initially a three-star recruit who committed to Colorado, the Texas native scored 22 touchdowns off 1,856 yards in his high school football career at The Colony High School. He transferred to Commerce, where he played over the last two seasons.

He scored four touchdowns off 39 receptions for 457 yards while posting 25.4 yards per game.

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Keith Miller,” A&M-Commerce athletic director Jim Curry said.

“The A&M-Commerce community extends its deepest condolences to Keith’s family and those who knew and loved him. Words are hard to come by at this moment, but we ask that you keep those impacted by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.”
