£17m striker admits he’s in talks to leave after Nottingham Forest links
Nottingham Forest are among the clubs chasing Marcos Leonardo and the player has provided an update on his future.
The wonderkid is one of the most sought-after strikers in the world. Real Madrid, Roma, Newcastle and Lazio are all thought to be keen.
Leonardo was first linked with Forest during the summer. However, the player was keen to stay with Santos to see out the Brazilian top-flight campaign.
Leonardo admits he’s in talks to leave in January
It’s going to be fascinating to see who lands this burgeoning young talent when the window reopens.
The player has now been discussing his future, confessing that conversations have opened over a departure.
Forest-linked Leonardo told Brazilian outlet Lance: “I’m very happy to know that I’m responding. Yes, conversations are being had (with European teams).
“But now my head is focused on Santos, ever since I decided to stay here with the team. Thank God I’m helping. Total focus on this final stretch, I leave the rest to God.”
Leonardo could be game-changer for Forest
The Reds are going to have to do something in January when it comes to adding to their attacking ranks.
Taiwo Awoniyi is out injured for three to four months and Chris Wood has also had injury concerns of his own.
Leonardo would be a quality signing for Forest but given the nature of the clubs that fancy him, it could be a battle that they can’t win.
The 20-year-old has scored 21 goals in 46 appearances in Brazil this season and is thought to be available for around £17 million.
Forest have enjoyed plenty of success with the South American market and Leonardo would certainly be at home on Trentside.
Danilo, Murillo and Felipe would certainly help Leonardo settle at Forest and hopefully, regular football can give Forest the edge over their rivals.
