GOOD NEWS: Washington Commanders welcomes new star in to the team
Former Cardinals QB Retires, Joins Commanders Staff
ARIZONA — Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback David Blough – just 28-years-old – is retiring from professional football and getting a head start on his coaching career with the Washington Commanders as an assistant quarterbacks coach.
Blough will be joining former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury (who accepted a job as Washington’s new offensive coordinator) and assistant coach David Raih, who is now the Commanders’ TE coach.
Blough first entered the league with the Cleveland Browns in 2019 as an undrafted free agent. He was traded to the Detroit Lions months later and spent three seasons there before being released in March of 2022.
Blough briefly spent time with the Minnesota Vikings on their practice squad before the Cardinals signed him to their active roster near the end of 2022. He started in Week 17 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Blough initially re-signed with Arizona last offseason – even after Kingsbury was fired – but did not make the final roster under new head coach Jonathan Gannon. He went back to Detroit in August and remained with the Lions until his contract expired this January.
Blough started seven games in his NFL career, completing 57% of his passes for 1,435 yards and six touchdowns to nine interceptions.
The Commanders are heavy favorites to land a new quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.
