GOOD NEWS; Guess who‘s back in the team for Phoenix Suns
King Cake Baby’ to make season debut as Phoenix Suns visit New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS, LA (3TV/CBS 5) — An interesting yet somewhat unsettling spectator will be in attendance as the Phoenix Suns take the court against the Pelicans on Friday night in New Orleans. It’s a very different kind of mascot that will be making appearances at Pelicans games during Carnival season, dubbed “King Cake Baby!”
King Cake Baby refers to the baby inside of a “King Cake,” a delicious and frosted dessert enjoyed during Carnival. There’s a little plastic baby hidden inside the treat, and whoever finds the baby must buy the next cake.
Friday’s game marks the debut of King Cake Baby this season. He’s a stark contrast to the Pelicans’ usual mascot, Pierre the Pelican. According to CBS Sports, King Cake Baby was created in 2009 by Jonathan Bertuccelli. He was introduced for the then-Hornets and has since been considered one of the most infamous mascots in sports.
Let’s hope it doesn’t spook Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and the rest of the Suns as he roams the court tonight. But who knows? He could be a distraction during free throws.
