GOOD NEWS: Nebraska welcomes another star into the team

Nebraska makes Thomas hire official as co-OC, quarterbacks coach

Nebraska made the hire of former Pittsburgh Steelers assistant Glenn Thomas official on Wednesday, with Thomas set to handle quarterback coaching duties, while also serving as co-offensive coordinator with Marcus Satterfield.

“Glenn Thomas has a history of success throughout his coaching career, and I look forward to him being a part of the Nebraska football program,” Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule said in a statement announcing the hire. “Glenn has proven to be an elite developer of quarterbacks, and his background at both the collegiate and NFL levels is a great addition to our coaching staff.”

Satterfield will handle tight ends, in addition to his co-coordinating duties. Josh Martin, who served as interim tight ends coach last season following the resignation of Bob Wager, will return to his role as an analyst for the 2024 season.

Thomas previously worked with Rhule for five seasons across stints at Temple and Baylor. During those stints, Thomas worked in the development of Temple quarterback P.J. Walker and Baylor’s Charlie Brewer.

Overall, Thomas has 15 years of college coaching experience, serving at the coordinator level in 10 of those seasons. He has eight full seasons on NFL staffs and was influential in the development of NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan.

“I am honored for the opportunity to join a tradition-rich football program at the University of Nebraska,” Thomas said in a statement. “I have been fortunate to work for Coach Rhule in the past and appreciate the chance to join him and his outstanding staff at Nebraska. I can’t wait to get to Lincoln and go to work with the Husker offense.”

Before spending the 2023 season in Pittsburgh, Thomas was Arizona State’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022. He oversaw a rushing attack that saw Xavier Valladay notch the 10th-best rushing mark in school history with 1,192 yards and 16 touchdowns. Additionally, under Thomas’ tutelage, quarterbacks Trenton Bourget broke the ASU record for single-season completion percentage at 71.4 percent.
