Las Vegas Raiders and Jim Harbaugh have a ‘mutual interest’ amid speculation the Michigan head coach could leave the Wolverines for NFL
Jim Harbaugh’s return to the NFL could happen sooner rather than later, as the Michigan head coach and the Las Vegas Raiders have a ‘mutual interest’ in Harbaugh leaving the Wolverines for pro football.
Harbaugh reportedly wants to return to the NFL and has ‘a lot of interest’ in the open Los Angeles Chargers head-coaching job as well, per Bleacher Report.
The Raiders giving Harbaugh the helm would buck the internal interest shown in interim head coach Antonio Pierce. Team owner Mark Davis is in favor of Pierce, but Harbaugh is reportedly ‘at or near the top of his list.’
The Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, and Carolina Panthers are also looking for their next head coaches.
Harbaugh-led Michigan plays in its first national championship game since 1997 on Monday night against Washington.
Harbaugh has made a few jumps between collegiate football and the NFL throughout his coaching career.
He started as the then-Oakland Raiders quarterbacks’ coach for two seasons before taking the head coaching position with FCS-level University of San Diego.
Harbaugh has been a high-level head coach since with Stanford, the San Francisco 49ers, and now at his alma mater in Michigan.
Harbaugh has been the Wolverines’ head coach since 2015 and has led the team to the College Football Playoff each of the last three seasons.
After taking over for the fired Josh McDaniels, Pierce led the Raiders to a 5-4 record as their interim leader.
