A Huntsville woman was killed in a fatal car crash in Russell County on Sunday.
Authorities from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said a two-vehicle crash happened around 5:15 a.m. Sunday morning in Russell County.
Authorities said Emma G. Howard, 19, was fatally injured when the 2020 Jeep Wrangler she was driving hit the rear end of the 2025 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Trenton Z. Parry, 23, of Gillsville, GA.
Howard was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers with ALEA said the crash occurred on U.S. 431 near the 90-mile marker, approximately 25 miles south of Phenix City, in Russell County.
The investigation is ongoing.
Howard was a student-athlete at Huntingdon College. The school released the following statement:
Emma was a dynamic student at Huntingdon and she carried a big smile with her across campus. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, and a graduate of Grissom High School, she was a member of the women’s soccer team, the Dean’s List of High Honors and was an active sister of Alpha Omicron Pi.
Due to an injury upon entering the institution, the Business Administration major never got the opportunity to take the field in a Huntingdon soccer uniform, but recently, she joined the women’s lacrosse team, lending itself to her selfless nature and intentional work ethic.
Her vibrant attitude, genuine kindness, and endearing personality will be missed not only by those within the Huntingdon community, but by all of those who were blessed by Emma’s presence.
