As of March 27, 2025, Hubert Davis, 54, continues to serve as the head coach of the University of North Carolina (UNC) men’s basketball team. In February 2025, he signed a two-year contract extension, ensuring his position through the 2029-30 season.

In November 2023, Hubert’s uncle, Walter Davis—a UNC basketball legend and former NBA All-Star—passed away at age 69 due to natural causes. Walter’s death was a significant loss to the UNC community, where he was celebrated for his contributions both on and off the court.

Additionally, Hubert’s former teammate and close friend, Eric Montross, died from cancer on December 17, 2023, at age 52. These personal losses have deeply affected Hubert, influencing his perspective and leadership within the UNC basketball program.

Despite these challenges, Hubert Davis continues to lead the Tar Heels with dedication, honoring the legacies of his family members and maintaining the team’s competitive stature.
