Frederic was scheduled for a hearing Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:

Frederic scored a career-high 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points in 79 games in 2022-23. He averaged 11:55 of ice time per game, primarily as a five-on-five player.

Frederic was at his best at the No. 3 right wing next to Taylor Hall and Charlie Coyle. The natural center may have to move to the middle in 2023-24 following the retirement of Patrice Bergeron and the unknown status of David Krejci.

Frederic was one of three players to file for arbitration. Jeremy Swayman’s award is due Tuesday. Ian Mitchell signed a one-year, $775,000 contract on July 10 prior to his July 26 hearing.

Is it a fair contract?

Yes, for both sides. The Bruins get the security of two years at a reasonable sum. Frederic doubles his most recent average annual value ($1.05 million) and becomes unrestricted upon the expiration of the deal.

For both team and player, a two-year window gives Frederic an opportunity to build on 2022-23. The 25-year-old could produce more offense with more ice time.

Will he play center or wing?

Frederic would fit well as the No. 3 center behind Pavel Zacha and Coyle. However, his experience at wing gives coach Jim Montgomery options. For example, Frederic could be the No. 2 left wing behind Brad Marchand. This would allow Montgomery to use James van Riemsdyk lower in the lineup.

Or, if Montgomery prefers to use Jake DeBrusk on the left side, Frederic could be the No. 2 right wing behind David Pastrnak.

Is there more to Frederic’s game?

Absolutely. Frederic was happy to play for Montgomery. Ex-coach Bruce Cassidy was often firm with his touch on Frederic. With more shifts and confidence, Frederic could be a dependable third-line center or top-six wing. Frederic has a heavy shot. He is strong on the puck. He is not afraid of fighting anybody.

Frederic was scoreless in five games in Round 1 of the playoffs against the Florida Panthers.
