Redshirt freshman wide receiver CJ Adams will leave the program after two seasons. Adams posted a message to social media that included: “I want to express my deepest gratitude to the University of South Carolina, the coaching staff, my teammates, the fans, and everyone associated with the university who has contributed to this chapter of my life. This experience has been nothing short of special. I have built lifelong friendships and created memories I will always cherish.
“After thoughtful conversations with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining. I am excited to see what the future holds as I take the next step in my journey.”
Adams was a three-star signee from Mableton, Georgia in the 2023 recruiting class, but he never saw the field in two seasons. Place kicker Daniel Lester, who just wrapped up his redshirt sophomore season with the Gamecocks, posted his decision to enter the portal, saying: “I want to thank the University of South Carolina, my parents, and my teammates for the unforgettable memories and unwavering support through my time here. Thank you to the coaching staff and huge thanks to the strength staff. After talking with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility.”
Lester joined the roster in 2022 as a walk-on. He graduated from Sunlake High School in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. In total, eight USC players from the 2024 have posted plans to social media regarding their plans to leave the program. The transfer portal does not officially open until Monday, but it’s common for players to announce their intentions to enter the portal ahead of that date. In the portal cycle that immediately followed the 2023 season, South Carolina lost 21 via transfer but ended up adding 20 new players back to the roster.
