‘It’s life changing’: 3-star OL Joshua Aisosa’s journey to signing with the Sooners

EDMOND — Joshua Aisosa held back tears as he reminisced about the journey that led him from Texas playing basketball to Oklahoma playing football.

Sooners' Brent Venables says 'unlike' Deion Sanders, he gave players 'grace' period in first year as coach

He thanked God, his parents, and all of his high school coaches who helped him along the way. For a player who didn’t play football until his sophomore season, it was truly a special moment to sign with a powerhouse Division-I program like Oklahoma.

“Lastly, I want to thank the coaches at the University of Oklahoma,” Aisosa said. “I want to thank them for believing in me and giving me this opportunity that I have. It’s life-changing. Boomer Sooner!”

At Edmond Santa Fe on Wednesday, Aisosa signed his National Letter of Intent with the Sooners alongside his family, coaches and classmates. The decision makes his commitment official during the early signing day period.

“Looking again up front,” Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables said on Wednesday, “offensive line, Josh Aisosa from Edmond Santa Fe, one of the best linemen in the state. Just a fantastic player. He’s got size, athletic ability, great agility, he’s worked really hard at his game and his development.”

Aisosa didn’t start playing football until his sophomore season. Originally from Texas, Aisosa and his family moved to Oklahoma to begin his freshman year of high school. His focus was on basketball until he gained some weight during the pandemic. He’s since improved to become one of the best offensive linemen in the state. This season, he was named the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year after helping Edmond Santa Fe to a 7-4 record and a Class 6A-I state quarterfinal appearance.

A three-star offensive lineman, Aisosa is the No. 94 2024 interior offensive line recruit according to 247Sports in the Top247 player rankings. He’s the No. 15 player in the state of Oklahoma. Aisosa plans to enroll early and get on campus in January.

“I think it’s a great thing, getting more experience with the older guys,” Aisosa said. “And I feel like I can get on the field this year.”

When asked why the Sooners were the best fit for him over others like Iowa State, Missouri and Tulsa, Aisosa gave a passionate answer.

“There’s really no other place like it, like Oklahoma,” Aisosa told 247Sports. “From the start, they’ve been treating me like family, and being there, I just knew that it was a place I wanted to be and needed to be. Coach B (Bill Bedenbaugh) is a great person, and he gives everyone their best chances of being great…

“It feels great; it’s almost like a shock. Like, at first, I didn’t know stuff like this was coming. Now that it’s here, it feel great. I can go to one of the top schools in the country. And I can be the next great.”
