Anthony Richardson’s career at college football.
Anthony Richardson had a standout, albeit brief, college football career at the University of Florida. A highly touted recruit, Richardson joined the Gators as part of the 2020 class. He redshirted his first season in 2020, appearing in just a few games but showing flashes of his dual-threat potential. Richardson became the Gators’ starting quarterback in 2022 under head coach Billy Napier after Emory Jones transferred.
In his sophomore season (2022), Richardson showcased his raw athleticism and potential, passing for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions while rushing for 654 yards and 9 touchdowns. His combination of size (6’4″, 244 lbs), arm strength, and speed made him one of the most exciting quarterbacks in college football. He had several highlight-reel performances, including a thrilling win over Utah to open the season, and an impressive game against Tennessee.
Despite his flashes of brilliance, Richardson’s consistency was a concern. He struggled with accuracy at times, and his decision-making could be erratic. However, he displayed significant improvement over the course of the 2022 season, particularly as a runner.
Richardson declared for the 2023 NFL Draft after his sophomore year, forgoing his final two seasons of eligibility. His physical tools, combined with his upside, made him a top draft prospect. He was selected 4th overall by the Indianapolis Colts, with many seeing him as a project with sky-high potential given his strong arm, mobility, and untapped talent.
