The Denver Broncos have made a significant move in free agency by signing veteran tight end Evan Engram to a two-year, $23 million contract, with $16.5 million guaranteed. This acquisition aims to bolster the Broncos’ offensive capabilities under head coach Sean Payton.

Engram, a two-time Pro Bowler, spent the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars after beginning his NFL career with the New York Giants in 2017. His most productive season came in 2023, recording 114 receptions for 963 yards and four touchdowns. Despite being limited to nine games in 2024 due to injuries, Engram managed 47 receptions for 365 yards and a touchdown.

The Broncos faced competition from the Los Angeles Chargers for Engram’s services. After visiting both teams, Engram chose Denver, aligning with Payton’s vision of utilizing a dynamic tight end in the “joker” role—a versatile position crucial to the offensive scheme.

Engram’s arrival addresses a pressing need for the Broncos, who lacked significant production from the tight end position in recent seasons. His experience and skill set are expected to provide young quarterback Bo Nix with a reliable target, enhancing the team’s offensive dynamics. This signing reflects Denver’s commitment to strengthening its roster as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
