A man is dead after being ejected from his car in a crash along U.S.-41 in Punta Gorda on Monday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 24-year-old Fort Myers man was driving a sedan south on U.S.-41 in the outside lane near Acline Road around 6:30 p.m.

 

A 73-year-old Arcadia woman driving an SUV pulled out of a driveway and began driving south on U.S.-41 in the outside lane.

 

Both drivers tried to change into the inside lane.

 

The front right of the sedan crashed into the left back of the SUV.

 

The man came off the road, flipped and was ejected from the vehicle.

 

FHP states the SUV spun and came to rest on the shoulder.

 

The man sustained critical injuries and was taken to Gulf Coast Hospital. On February 1, he was pronounced dead.

 

This crash remains under investigation.
