After watching the Midlands outfit suffer relegation to League One for the first time since the competition was rebranded, Tom Brady made a promise to Birmingham City fans.

The former NFL star’s words of wisdom have begun to come true in the 2024/25 season, with the Blues now on course to secure promotion.

Birmingham have dominated League One and while not yet official, they will be going up as champions.

A meeting with Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley Stadium awaits next month as well.

But as well as helping Birmingham improve on the pitch, Brady has played a key role in raising the club’s profile off it, including rubbing shoulders with the likes of Lionel Messi and David Beckham.

Widely considered the greatest player of all time, Messi left Europe to link up with Inter Miami in July 2023.

The MLS outfit are co-owned by David Beckham, who has formed a good relationship with Brady in recent years.

The duo attended a meeting at St Andrew’s early this season to watch Birmingham beat promotion rivals Wrexham 3-1.

Meanwhile, back in August, Brady joked he was going to steal Messi away from Inter Miami.

Bradly was clearly making a joke at the time but given the huge change in football since celebrities like Brady have become involved, bizarre transfers like Messi moving to Birmingham are slightly less unbelievable than they may have been 10 years ago.

However, Birmingham fans probably shouldn’t get their hopes up as the former FC Barcelona man has already made his feelings clear regarding playing in England, and he’s not a fan, as per Essentially Sports.

Messi said in 2024: “When I had to play in England in winter time the truth is that I suffered a lot.

“I’m telling you, my feet feel hard, they fall asleep and I suffered a lot.”
