Aaron Rodgers has expressed his desire to go to the Vikings in free agency, however,ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the move is unlikely to happen because of Minnesota‘s willingness to play JJ McCarthy.
Rodgers is likely between a few teams that could absorb a veteran quarterback, including the Giants, Vikings, and Steelers
McCarthy tore his right meniscus during his preseason debut last August, causing him to miss all of his first season with the Vikings.
Now with Sam Darnold moving on to the Seattle Seahawks, and Daniel Jones trying to become the starter in Indianapolis, McCarthy has the inside track to be the Vikings’ top signal caller.
Rodgers’ already limited options may have been reduced even more with his top choice in returning to the NFC North off the table
The two longtime Packers quarterbacks would finishing their NFL careers with short stints in New York and Minnesota.
The Vikings’ reported preference of McCarthy is not shocking, as Rodgers has not played like an MVP-level quarterback for multiple seasons.
McCarthy was selected No 10 overall in last year’s NFL Draft after leading Michigan to a national championship.
Many of the rookie quarterbacks from last season had great first NFL campaigns, including Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix.
