Birmingham manager Chris Davies wants to see more from attacking midfielder Willum Willumsson in the final third following a disappointing performance away at Northampton.

Willumsson was uninspiring with his creative play in a first half the Cobblers dominated and then struggled with his finishing when Birmingham took control in the second period. The Icelander had arguably the best chance to complete a turnaround for Blues as he headed wide from just a few yards after Kieran Dowell clipped in a delicate cross.

Considering Willumsson stands at 6ft 4in, you’d expect the midfielder to dominate in the air but he’s been rather underwhelming when presented with headed opportunities this season. In fact, the £3 million summer signing is yet to score a header for Birmingham.

Davies typically prefers his team to play with the ball on the ground but mixing up the weight and height of crosses into the area is pivotal when facing a low block. That’s often been the case this season with opponents desperately trying to stop Blues from being their free-scoring selves.
