The Minnesota Vikings aren’t done spending yet. After shelling out nearly $250 million in the first 48 hours of free agency — the most by any team in the NFL — the Vikings still have in the ballpark of $39 million to spend for the upcoming season, according to Over The Cap. Their latest move came on Friday, March 14, in the signing of a rival Green Bay Packers player who also has a history in Minnesota. The Athletic’s Alec Lewis reported that the Vikings “have agreed to terms with former Packers LB Eric Wilson, per source.

Wilson played more than 500 defensive snaps last year in GB,” Lewis wrote of Wilson, who started 12 games last season. “Hey special teamer as well. Vikings needed depth with Kamu Grugier-Hill becoming FA (free agent).” Undrafted out of Cincinnati in 2017, Wilson spent four seasons with the Vikings as primarily a special teamer behind Pro Bowl linebacker duo Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks. Barr missed the majority of the 2020 season with a torn pectoral muscle, thrusting Wilson into a starting role. He thrived in an all-purpose role, tallying 122 total tackles, 3.0 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, 2 fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and 3 interceptions
Wilson went on to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles the next season and was named a Week 1 starter. However, he didn’t pan out in Philadelphia, leading to him being waived. He spent the rest of the season with the Houston Texans before signing with the Packers the following offseason. In three years in Green Bay, Wilson has played in 47 games. He figures to provide depth at linebacker with Blake Cashman and fellow Bearcat alumnus Ivan Pace Jr. returning as presumptive starters.
