The Los Angeles Dodgers are predicted to be among the favorites to win the World Series in 2025 once more. They are a well-oiled machine that is ready to play a significant role in free agency once more, as they are anticipated to enter the Juan Soto sweepstakes and pursue Roki Sasaki, the best pitcher available internationally.
In particular, Tommy Edman, who won the NLCS MVP award after being acquired by the Dodgers at the deadline, will be entering free agency at the end of the 2025 season, and the Dodgers still have some internal issues to resolve regarding the contract status of some of the key players who helped them win the World Series this past season.
But it appears that the Dodgers have no intention of letting Edman go. The Dodgers “have had preliminary dialogue” with Edman’s team about a possible contract extension, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Over the past ten or so years, the Dodgers have placed a high priority on having defensive players that can play a variety of positions and still contribute well. This has been a defining characteristic of their success since 2013. Examples of these players include Edman, Chris Taylor, and Kike Hernandez.
At the moment, it’s not quite clear how much money Edman will command for his new contract. He’s only 29 years of age, and he’s coming off a postseason run in which he slashed .328/.354/.508 to go along with two home runs and 13 runs batted in while playing two of the most important defensive positions in center field and shortstop. He has a track record for being one of the best defenders in the league, so he should be able to command a considerable sum.
