Major Update: Texas Longhorns’ best prospects has scheduled a visit to Austin
The Texas Longhorns are looking to make a big splash on the recruiting trail this summer, with multiple top-level recruits set to make their decisions before the start of the 2024 season. One position group in which they could use that impact is in the secondary, where they hold just two commitments through the 2025 cycle thus far in four-star corner Kade Phillips, and three-star corner Caleb Chester.
Luckily for the Horns, Ball (Galveston, TX) five-star safety Jonah Williams has scheduled an unofficial visit for Austin on July 25, according Inside Texas sources. This suggests that the Horns may be moving in that direction.
Williams hasn’t announced a date for commitment yet.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Williams is now ranked No. 3 in Texas, No. 1 safety in the nation, and No. 10 player in America.
Williams was a standout player on both sides of the ball during his junior year, when he caught 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns and ran for 144 yards and two more scores. He finished with 58 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 4 interceptions as the defensive end. In addition, he returned two punts and two kicks for scores and made three pick-sixes.
Do the Horns actually stand a chance to sign Williams, though?
Jim Schlossnagle, the Horns’ new head baseball coach, is one person who could assist them in that endeavor.
Williams is a highly skilled baseball prospect as well, and his fondness for the new Texas Skipper helped him rank the Aggies toward the top of his list.
And in a recent interview, Williams stated that his recruits may benefit greatly from that change.
“That would be pretty crazy,” Williams said in a previous interview with 247Sports. “It would definitely move Texas up.”
Texas does not currently have a safety prospect committed, despite Phillips’ projections that he can play that position at the highest level.
