Concerning update on Tre Mitchell’s injury from John Calipari

Coach Calipari described Tre Mitchell’s injury in a language that raised concerns.
Against Ole Miss, Kentucky was playing at full strength for the first time this season, but the lead didn’t last long.

The Kentucky Wildcats, who were hoping to end a three-game losing run in Rupp Arena, welcomed Ole Miss to town. Kentucky’s well-balanced offensive effort allowed them to end Ole Miss’ winning run, defeating them 75-63. Despite having four players score in double figures, the Wildcats were without a game winner. Kentucky’s basketball team is extremely dangerous because of this.

After missing two games due to a back ailment, Tre Mitchell made his Ole Miss comeback and played just 21 minutes before needing to exit with a shoulder issue. Mitchell grabbed his shoulder and walked to the bench after his third foul. After spending less than a minute on the bench, he left and never returned to the dressing room.

Regarding Mitchell’s injury, head coach John Calipari said after the game, “Went to get x-rays, I don’t know.”

Even though it is obvious that Coach Calipari is still learning a lot, the news that Mitchell is getting X-rays worries me. It will be fascinating to hear a timeline on Mitchell when we hear from Coach Calipari again since it was evident as he went to the bench that he was in a lot of discomfort.

“I think Tre Mitchell is one of the best players in college basketball,” said Ole Miss Coach Chris Beard, who coached Mitchell at Texas in the 2021–2022 campaign. He’s not a stat sheet type in my perspective; what matters most to this young, extremely talented team is his poise and serenity.”

This demonstrates Mitchell’s importance to this Kentucky team, which is heavily composed of freshmen. With any luck, Mitchell won’t have to miss Saturday’s game against Auburn because of this injury.
