2025 offensive lineman Brian Tapu commits to Nebraska
The Huskers claimed a commitment from the offensive line, withBrian Tapu announcing his pledge to Nebraska on Thursday evening.
Seemingly in a good spot for Tapu after his official visit to Lincoln in the middle of June, Tapu did briefly commit to Oregon State after a visit there the following week.
But Tapu reassessed the situation and picked the Husker program where he had a solid connection with O-line coach Donovan Raiola. “Coach Donnie,” as Tapu said of him in an interview, just really made him want to commit to NU.
Not to mention Tapu has gotten coaching from a former Husker standout, Toniu Fonoti.
“You guys have like a family there. That makes it more comfortable and a place where I would see myself,” said Tapu, who added of Matt Rhule, “He’s an amazing person. He’s just a guy that just wants to bring the program back and I really do see it.”
Tapu’s father and mother were able to fly in from their native New Zealand to be part of Tapu’s official visit to Nebraska.
“They really loved it,” Tapu told Husker247.
The lineman also received strong insights from Tyler Knaak, who is from Utah, where Tapu is finishing his high school career at Salt Lake City West. Knaak told him how Nebraska just felt like home to him after he moved here.
Tapu is still relatively new to football, taking it up after an uncle suggested he try it. Basketball had been his main sport.
His potential is easy enough to spot as he grows in the game to match his 6-7, 295-pound frame.
“Right now what I’m working on is to just be more aggressive,” he told Husker247. “I just want to dominate on the field more. … I think I’ll be ready when the season comes.”
He also spoke on the belief Rhule will succeed in helping Nebraska football back.
