Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore sat down with Joel Klatt on Big Noon Conversations Monday to reflect on his experiences with Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines throughout the 2023 college football season.
Moore’s interview with Klatt covered several important topics about his future as the team’s new head coach, but Klatt was especially anxious to discuss Moore’s memorable postgame interview after a tough 24-15 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Michigan’s football program was undergoing a period of controversy after Harbaugh’s three-game suspension. Moore led the Wolverines to their first win since Harbaugh’s announced suspension on Nov. 16, which led to an extremely emotional postgame interview with FOX Sports’ Jenny Taft.
“All the emotions that you could feel in anything exciting, that’s what I felt,” Moore reflected. “For people on the outside that didn’t think our players won fairly…that was like, ‘Okay, bet. This is what we’re about. And now, what can you say about us?'”
Moore famously addressed Harbaugh directly in the interview, professing that the win against Penn State was for him. But Moore also thinks the win reflects the players positively, shouting, “These guys did it,” several times during the interview while embracing running back Blake Corum.
“The players, I think, appreciated it,” Moore said. “In the world today, that emotion is kind of perceived as weakness. And I don’t see it as that. People can say whatever they want, but we accomplished something pretty special last season.”
Moore went 3-0 in his tenure as the interim head coach last season during Harbaugh’s absence. The 2024 season will be Moore’s first season as a full-time head coach at the collegiate level.
