Flyers’ Joel Farabee suspended three games for late hit on Jets’ Mathieu Perreault

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Monday that Philadelphia Flyers rookie Joel Farabee has been suspended three games for his late hit on Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault.

Farabee collided with Perreault while the Winnipeg veteran was vulnerable and the puck was no longer in his vicinity during the second period of Philadelphia’s 7-3 loss to the Jets on Sunday.

Perreault had to be helped off of the ice by a couple of teammates and did not return to the game. According to Paul Maurice, via Ken Wiebe of The Athletic, Perreault has been tested and put into concussion protocol. Owned in 1% of Yahoo Fantasy leagues, the 31-year-old is considered day-to-day.

The 14th-overall selection of the Flyers in the 2018 NHL draft, Farabee received a five-minute major for interference and a game misconduct on the play. The Jets went on to score two power-play goals on the ensuing extended man advantage and added a couple more within 48 seconds of it ending on their way to the victory.

Farabee will surrender just shy of $15,000 under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, according to the Canadian Press.

Through 27 games this season, the 19-year-old has three goals and 19 points.
