Kenny Miller has questioned Philippe Clement’s decision to suggest some Rangers stars have “reached the end of their cycle”.

The Ibrox manager spoke in his press conference this afternoon and claimed that he plans a major overhaul this summer which will involve shipping some players out the door to make room for his own. It’s been a difficult campaign for the club and the Belgian feels much is to be done to get his squad in shape for next term and another crack at Celtic’s title.

Miller, though, wasn’t sure it was the right thing for Clement to be discussing ahead of next weekend’s Scottish Cup Final as his comments regarding some players whose time could be up in Glasgow will only have his current squad considering their own futures.

Even those under longer-term contracts, Miller says, may be questioning what might be to come.

“It’s an interesting comment from Philippe Clement in relation to this team’s run its cycle because I’m looking at the team and I wonder who he’s talking about. For me there’s only a select few players that would fall into that,” he said on Superscoreboard.

“That team from the other night you have (Jack) Butland who’s been sensational is one season, (Cyriel) Dessers one season, (Ben) Davies two seasons, (Ridvan) Yilmaz two seasons. (Mohamed) Diomande’s only been there six months, (Nico) Raskin 18 months, (Todd) Cantwell 18 months, these guys… for me, to say run their cycle, I don’t know.

“For me, (James) Tavernier, (Connor) Goldson, (John) Lundstram, (Borna) Barisic who will leave in the summer, I get it. But it’ll be interesting to see how this summer is gonna look for Philippe Clement. There’s no doubt the guys out of contract it’s simple enough you can move them on if you don’t want to keep them. Some of them might not want to stay and look at other things as well.

“But you look at players in contract who he might be referring to in that statement, it’ll be an interesting summer.

“It begs the question, who are you talking about? There could be guys on contract thinking, ‘Are you talking about me? I’ve just came through the door a year ago or six months ago, 18 months ago’.”
