Newcastle United vs Chelsea on Saturday afternoon is expected to be a hugely entertaining encounter. If Chelsea’s last two Premier League matches are anything to go by, then we are set to have a goal-filled showdown between two hugely talented sides.
However, there are 21 – yes, twenty-one – players that could miss out of the Premier League clash at St James’ Park at the weekend. Thirteen of those come from Newcastle, while Chelsea have eight players who are uncertain ahead of the game.
For the hosts on Tyneside, we await to hear Eddie Howe’s press conference later this week, but what we know is there are 13 players carrying an injury. Jacob Murphy is ruled out until next year with a shoulder problem and likewise Dan Burn will not play again in 2023 because of a lower back injury.
Callum Wilson is expected to be out until next month because of a hamstring injury, while Elliot Anderson (lower back), Matt Targett (thigh), Javier Manquillo (groin) and Sven Botman (knee) are also set to be sidelined for this weekend’s match.
Harvey Barnes is struggling with a foot injury and is expected to miss out once again. The likes of Miguel Almiron, Fabian Schar and Alexander Isak are in contention to return but we await to hear Howe’s final assessment.
And we know that Lewis Hall will not be able to play. Hall signed for Newcastle on loan, with an obligation to make the deal permanent, from Chelsea in the summer so the 19-year-old will not be eligible to face his parent club.
