Alejandro Tabilo was invited by Novak Djokovic to train with him prior to the Rome Open, but the Chilean turned down the offer. The 24-time Grand Slam champion reportedly invited Tabilo to train with him for four days in Montenegro, according to the media in Chile.
On his father’s advice, the 26-year-old golfer turned down the offer to play in the Madrid Open after Flavio Cobolli had eliminated him in the opening round. Instead, he went to the Challenger Aix-en-Provence, where he won the championship just one week before to his incredible run in Rome.
Tabilo’s rejection of Djokovic
Weeks before facing each other in the Italian tournament, the Serbian called Tabilo to propose training together for four days in Montenegro, with all expenses paid. However, Tabilo decided to reject the invitation, a decision that proved crucial for what happened later: “I told him not to go. They were already watching him. Obviously, it was the right call,” said Ricardo Tabilo, the player’s father.
