Once tipped to be the next new Grand Slam champion and reach No 1 in the ATP Rankings, Tsitsipas was overtaken by Alcaraz as the Spaniard won the 2022 US Open and became world No 1 in the process and then followed it up with the Wimbledon title last year.
Following a lacklustre 2023 campaign by Tsitispas, the likes of Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune now also appear to be ahead of him in the queue of players who are likely to break their major ducks in the near future.
Although he started last year with a runners-up trophy at the Australian Open, the Greek struggled for the remainder of the campaign as he failed to reach the latter stages at Wimbledon and the US Open.
However, the 25-year-old insists he is still very much in the running when it comes to the biggest titles in tennis.
“Carlos has two [Grand Slams] so far, against Novak and [Casper] Ruud,” Tsitispas, who also lost the 2021 French Open final against Novak Djokovic told The Guardian. “I’m waiting for my chance. I’m 25 years old so I still have plenty of time. But I am not that kid that used to hunt for big wins with nothing to lose.
“Now there are younger kids on the block that want to show off their new cars, and I need to show I’m still here, like Novak, and that this is not over. I still think my old-looking car is still pretty cool. It’s vintage.”
