Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley has sent a message to supporters after wins for both the men’s and women’s teams this weekend.

The men earned their first home victory of 2024 with a 3-0 win against Wolves while the women continued their brilliant run of form by beating Stoke 4-1.

Staveley says it’s been a ‘fantastic’ week for Newcastle

For Eddie Howe, winning against Wolves felt absolutely imperative after the poor run of form they’ve been on particularly at St James’ Park, and getting a clean sheet as well was a huge bonus.

Their defensive problems have been going on for far too long with the likes of Sven Botman and Dan Burn looking out of sorts recently, but the pair both had solid games against Wolves.

With a big game against Chelsea coming up next Monday night, this win was important to give them a bit of a confidence boost to tackle a team who are massively underperforming this season but still possess a lot of talent.

As they head into the final stretch of games this season, Staveley is keen for Newcastle to stay positive and continue to fight for every point and hope that what they do will be enough to see them into Europe next season.

On Instagram, Staveley said: “It’s been a winning weekend for both of our fantastic teams! It’s wonderful to see all our fans out supporting us as usual, and I’m so happy we’ve been able to deliver a win. Onwards and upwards we go #howaythelads#howaythelasses“.

Newcastle need to stay positive

The Magpies now have a huge few months ahead of them and for the most part they’re going to need everyone on the same page if they’re going to have any kind of success.

It did look for a moment like the FA Cup would be their only hope given their porr form in the Premier League, but that win against Wolves has fired them right back into the European conversation.

Newcastle are now just four points below Manchester United in sixth and still have to face them at Old Trafford, so Europa League is absolutely still on the cards for Howe and his players.

Qualifying for another European tournament will not only help them attract better players in the summer but Staveley and her colleagues should have more money to spend in the future to keep on improving this Newcastle squad.
