Newcastle United star Joelinton is expected to play again this season after undergoing surgery in January with his rehabilitation going to plan, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Joelinton has been out of action since early January after picking up an injury earlier that month.

He had to undergo surgery on his groin and has been undergoing a rehabilitation process.

Now he is well on his course to make a comeback with his rehabilitation going according to plan.

Things, as they stand, mean that Joelinton will be back in action before the end of the season.

The Magpies are also in the process of securing his long-term future with the club by tying him down with a new contract.

Joelinton will enter the final 12 months of his contract at St James’ Park in the summer and Eddie Howe wants the club to make sure that stays longer.

The 27-year-old joined the Tyneside club back in 2019 for a fee of around £40m from German club 1899 Hoffenheim.

Kieran Trippier is confident of a positive injury outcome after undergoing a scan on his calf following Newcastle United’s 3-0 win over Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies skipper limped off midway through the second-half, pulling up after receiving the ball from Martin Dubravka. Trippier initially looked as though he would be able to continue but instead was replaced by Tino Livramento as he headed straight down the St James’ Park tunnel.

Trippier has had a scan on the issue and will receive the results on Monday but is currently feeling good about his chances of being able to feature for the Magpies when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next Monday.

“I just felt something in my calf and I don’t want to take any risks or anything,” Trippier said on Sunday as he picked up his FWA North East Footballer of the Year Award.

“I had a good chat with the manager but I won’t know anything until [Monday]. My calf is feeling good but you know scan results can say anything, but most importantly I’m feeling positive.”

The award was handed to Trippier at Ramside Hall Hotel, with the Newcastle favourite being rewarded for a stellar year which saw him lead the club out at Wembley Stadium and help the north east outfit return to the Champions League.

“It means a lot,” Trippier told NUFC TV ahead of picking up the award. “I feel like myself and the team had a good year. It’s always special to pick up individual awards and I’m absolutely delighted.

“We’ve had a lot of challenges since I’ve been here but I think the team, everyone involved with the club, have reacted well with those challenges and it’s been a good journey.”
