West Ham could now sell £14 million star in the summer transfer window
West Ham United could sell a player in the summer transfer window who David Moyes brought to the club only 18 months ago.
The upcoming summer transfer window will be a vital one for West Ham manager David Moyes, with numerous new signings required.
However, there will be sales that need to be made as well, in order to raise funds and comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
One player who definitely could be moved on is Flynn Downes, with the 25-year-old currently out on loan with Southampton for the season.
According to The Athletic, West Ham could sell the Essex-born midfielder on a permanent deal when the summer transfer window opens.
It is suggested that Southampton are determined to bring him to St Mary’s on a permanent basis, regardless what division they’re playing in next season, with his long-term future at the London Stadium ‘uncertain’.
Moyes paid £14 million to bring the 25-year-old to the London Stadium from Swansea City in the summer of 2022, but he only played 1,507 minutes for the Hammers last season (Transfermarkt).
And he may well not play any more minutes for West Ham it seems…
West Ham could sell midfielder in the summer transfer window
With the Athletic claiming that the Saints are going to go all out to sign Downes permanently this summer, his future surely lies away from the London Stadium.
Downes has performed really well for Southampton this season, and I actually liked him a lot whenever he did play last season.
However it must be said, there are doubts as to whether the former Swansea City man is actually good enough to play in the Premier League.
He does a lot of things very well, but is he a progressive enough passer or good enough technically to make a difference for us at the very highest level? I’m not so sure he is if I’m being honest.
The midfielder is clearly a very solid Championship player, and he probably could do a good job for a bottom half Premier League side as well. Unfortunately for him though, I just don”t think he’ll make a career for himself in East London.
And if West Ham sell Flynn Downes in the summer transfer window, I think it will be the best thing for all parties involved.
