Are The Miami Hurricanes Closing In On A New Defensive Backs Coach?
Who will Miami hire to replace Jahmile Addae?
The Miami Hurricanes may soon reach a decision on who will replace Jahmile Addae as their new defensive backs coach.
Addae left Miami on February 7th to become the new cornerbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills. Addae served as DB’s coach under Mario Cristobal in 2022 and 2023.
Hurricanes reporter Gaby Urrutia from 247Sports revealed that multiple candidates have interviewed for the role.
Urrutia said on an Inside The U message board thread, “I think Evan Cooper is a real candidate on the table right now. Chevis Jackson and Evan Cooper both interviewed this week.”
Cooper is Nebraska’s secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator under Matt Rhule. Cooper is a South Florida native. Jackson is the cornerbacks coach and co-defensive coordinator at Marshall. Jackson worked there with Miami DC Lance Guidry in 2022.
Another rumored candidate for the position is Rutgers cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey. There is no word yet on if or when he will interview at Miami.
Even if the Hurricanes appear to be narrowing their search, they’re not leaving any stones unturned. All Hurricanes writer Liam Willerup noted on Wednesday that Miami had posted the DB’s coach vacancy on LinkedIn.
