Russell Martin confirms Southampton player boost ]

Southampton have been handed a welcome injury boost ahead of their Championship clash with Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The Saints have had to deal with the injury enforced absence of several senior players recently.

That has arguably made the 24-game unbeaten the club are currently on, even more impressive.

However, Southampton now look as though they are going to be getting an extra option to call on as they look to continue their promotion push.

Kamaldeen Sulemana in line for return from injury

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of that match with Huddersfield Town, Russell Martin has provided an update on the fitness of his squad.

As per Daily Echo journalist Alfie House, the Southampton manager has confirmed that winger Kamaldeen Sulemana will return to the squad this weekend.

Sulemana has not played for the Saints since the 1-0 win over Bristol City on the 29th November, when he suffered a hamstring injury.

The winger has therefore missed each of the last 14 matches that Southampton have played, although it appears he may soon be ready to make his mark again.

He is set to return to a Saints side that currently sit second in the Championship table. They are 11 points adrift of league leaders Leicester City, and one point clear of the play-off places.

Sulemana’s return a major boost for Southampton

The news that Sulemana is now back in contention for selection, will surely be welcomed by all of a Saints persuasion.

Prior to his injury, the 21-year-old had produced some encouraging performances for Southampton this season.

That included providing three assists in 13 Championship appearances during the current campaign. As a result, he does have the ability to play a part between now and the end of the season, as Martin’s side aim to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

Indeed, the extra depth that a fit and available Sulemana offers, could ease some of the pressure on those other attacking options at Southampton.

But after so long out, the winger may need time to build his way back up to match fitness once again. You feel though, that the form this side is in, means they can afford to take the time they need to give Sulemana the chance to do that.

As a result, this update on Sulemana from Martin, does seem to provide another source of positivity for Southampton to take with them into this clash with Huddersfield Town.
