What a sad news for LSU Tigers
Ex-LSU star Kayshon Boutte arrested, charged with making thousands of illegal bets while in college
Former LSU football star Kayshon Boutte was arrested Thursday as part of a Louisiana State Police investigation into underage gambling activities that allegedly occurred while he was in college.
Boutte, who played wide receiver for the Tigers from 2020-22, is accused of making nearly 9,000 wagers using an alias to circumvent age restrictions during a period from April 2022 to May 2023, when he turned 21. The bets involved at least 17 college football games, six of those LSU games in which Boutte played, according to police documents.
A native of New Iberia, La., Boutte caught 131 passes for 1,782 yards and 16 touchdowns in three seasons at LSU. He was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft, and caught two passes for 19 yards in five games played as a rookie.
The news on Boutte comes several months after Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon was fired following allegations of gambling activity involving Crimson Tide games.
Several student-athletes and former student-athletes at Iowa and Iowa State have also been suspended and prosecuted in the last year for underage gambling.
LSU released the following statement to media on Thursday:
