Nebrasketball Goes Cold, Falls in OT at Rutgers
Multiple double-digit leads weren’t enough for Nebraska men’s basketball Wednesday evening at Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knights (10-7, 2-4 Big Ten) emerged victorious 87-82 in overtime. NU dropped to 13-5 on the year and 3-4 in the conference.
The Huskers held a 12-point lead in the first half but saw that dissipate before halftime. Big Red then built up another 12-point lead in the second half with 9:39 left to play.
But Nebraska would not make a single shot the rest of regulation, settling for six made free throws heading into overtime.
In the extra period, a Keisei Tominaga 3 ended the field goal drought, and even with a pair of triples from Sam Hoiberg, the road team came up short.
Rutgers dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 56-42 while grabbing 25 offensive boards.
Brice Williams posted a game-high 22 points to go with six rebounds. Tomianga added 15 points.
Juwan Gary finished with nine points and six rebounds but left midway through the second half with a noncontact injury. No update was given on the extent of the injury.
Nebraska returns home Saturday to host Northwestern.
