The Philadelphia Eagles appear to have made a decision about head coach Nick Sirianni.

Despite the team’s poor finish in the 2023 season, it looks like the Eagles will be bringing Sirianni back as their head coach.

The hints about Sirianni’s status came from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. Russini reported on X Wednesday that Sirianni and GM Howie Roseman are actively strategizing about bringing in some new coordinators/coaches to the staff.

“Both Eagles GM Howie Roseman and HC Nick Sirianni have been reaching out to available NFL coaches and coordinators, as well as coaching agents across the league to evaluate potential coordinator candidates to join their coaching staff as they plan for the 2024 season,” Russini reported on X.

Roseman and Sirianni collaborating on improving the teram’s coaching staff certainly seems to suggest that Sirianni will be back.

Sirianni has been the head coach of the Eagles for three seasons. The team went 9-8 in his first year and lost in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. But they went 14-3 last season and made the Super Bowl. This year, the Eagles began the season 10-1 before collapsing and losing six of their final seven games. The terrible finish had folks in the media speculating — and some demanding — that the Eagles make a change at head coach. It looks like that won’t be happening.

Ultimately, the Eagles may feel that the loss of both of their coordinators following the Super Bowl run weakened the team. Former offensive coordinator Shane Steichen became the Indianapolis Colts’ head coach, while former defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon became the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach. The Eagles even made a change with their defensive coaching staff late in the season with hopes it would help, but it didn’t seem to do the trick.

During the Eagles’ playoff game loss to the Bucs on Monday night, ESPN announcer Troy Aikman pointed to the coordinator losses as a big problem for Philly. Perhaps he was echoing thoughts that were shared with him by Sirianni and/or Roseman.
