Mavericks’ former trade target ‘on the trade block,’ can Dallas land him?
After Sunday night’s win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Dallas Mavericks are sitting at 22-15 on the season.
Dallas has been much better than people have thought this season, but they still have some glaring holes.
Dallas needs a bit more help on the wing, and their backup center spot is a nightmare. Dereck Lively II has been elite for Dallas, but the drop-off that happens when he is off the floor is more than noticeable.
Dallas must upgrade their frontcourt, and they have been rumored to want to upgrade at the power forward position. Despite all of this, there is one guard that they were interested in a few months ago, and he could be traded soon.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Indiana Pacers guard Buddy Hield is “on the [trade] block.”
Dallas has shown interest in Hield in the past, and maybe they will revisit these talks over the next month or so.
Dallas doesn’t necessarily need more help on the perimeter, but adding one of the best statistical shooters of all time to a roster that includes Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving would be massive. He would be getting the most open looks of his career, and he could be a perfect fit into the Mavericks’ system.
This season for the Pacers, Hield is averaging 12.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 43.4 percent from downtown and 37.8 percent from downtown. He remains a lethal option from downtown, and adding him to this Mavericks team could be massive, but I don’t see Dallas pursuing him.
They have so many more needs that are more pressing than another shooter, but it wouldn’t be the craziest thing in the world if the Buddy Hield to Dallas rumors start up again.
