As the Chiefs prepare to play without Isiah Pacheco for a second consecutive game, coach Andy Reid shared an encouraging update on the running back’s status ahead of Week 15.

Reid announced Friday that Pacheco, who Kansas City ruled out earlier in the day, underwent “cleanup surgery” on the shoulder injury he sustained in Week 13. Described initially as a contusion, Reid also confirmed Pacheco’s injury occurred on the same shoulder that required offseason surgery due to a torn labrum.

In regards to the standout back’s return to action, Reid noted that the club could welcome Pacheco back in the near future, with the possibility of the 24-year-old resuming full practice sessions as soon as next week.

With the Chiefs (8–5) preparing to face the Patriots on Sunday, Kansas City will again rely on the combination of Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon to fill the void, though Friday’s news provided much needed clarity on Pacheco’s recovery timeline.

On the season, Pacheco, who also missed the Chiefs’ Week 14 loss to the Bills, has turned in a breakout second campaign as the starter, logging 779 rushing yards and six touchdowns to go with 209 receiving yards and another score.
