Seattle’s quarterback and running backs are all dealing with injuries.
At this point in the NFL season, there aren’t too many teams that are fully healthy. And even the ones that seem to be have players that are playing through nagging injuries.
With the playoffs a month away, it’s now crunch time for a lot of teams that need to make final pushes. That means having to make tough decisions when it comes to whether injured players can gut it out or not. For the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14, that question is more present than ever.
Not only is Seattle dealing with injuries to their starting running back and the back that has been replacing him; their quarterback also got injured during practice this week. Geno Smith is reportedly dealing with a tweaked groin that would usually have him out for two weeks.
Seattle is going to let him warm up before Sunday’s game to see if he can perform the basic functions of quarterbacking. It doesn’t help that the Seahawks face a San Francisco 49ers team with a fierce defensive line that has rattled off four straight easy wins against tough opponents, one of which was the Seahawks two weeks ago.
If Smith doesn’t go, Drew Lock will step in. That should give the Seahawks reason to lean on the ground game, yet they may not be able to because both of their best running backs are questionable for the game.
Regular starter Kenneth Walker III has been dealing with an oblique injury for a few weeks. Although he’s trending in the right direction, he may not be efficient until he’s back to 100 percent. The same goes for Zach Charbonnet, the rookie who has started each of the last two games but suffered a knee injury last week.
Whoever is out there for Seattle on Sunday, it’s already looking like a lost cause of a game in California.
