Jim Montgomery updates Bruins stars’ injury status
BOSTON — The Bruins’ top center and top defensemen were both missing from Monday morning’s practice and both are day-to-day for Wednesday’s game at New Jersey.
Charlie McAvoy, who left Thursday’s loss to the Buffalo Sabres in the third period with an injury and Pavel Zacha, who was injured in the first period of Saturday’s win over the Arizona Coyotes, both were absent from practice at Warrior Arena.
Bruins coach Jim Montgomery listed both as day-to-day and hoped to have a clearer picture for their availability for Wednesday by Tuesday.
“We’ll have more of a definitive answer tomorrow on whether (Zacha is) a player for us. The same goes for Charlie,” he said. “They’re progressing. They’re not at the stage where we can say yes or no yet for Wednesday.”
Brad Marchand, also missed practice. He and McAvoy skated before practice, Zacha did not. Montgomery called Marchand’s absence a maintenance day.
The Bruins didn’t have any new players with them at Monday’s practice.
It’s unclear when Zacha suffered his injury against Arizona, or what the extent of it is. His was the latest for the Bruins. Derek Forbort was placed on long-term injured reserve with an undisclosed ailment. McAvoy is day-to-day after an awkward hit at the beginning of the third period on Thursday.
Mason Lohrei is in the lineup for Forbort. Ian Mitchell stepped in for McAvoy.
