Fresh reports about the future of two-time Rugby World Cup winner RG Snyman have surfaced with the Stormers reportedly entering the race for his signature.

Snyman’s current club, Munster, confirmed last month that they would only be keeping one of their Springboks locks with Jean Kleyn signing a new deal and leaving the former Bulls star looking for a club next season.

As expected rumours started surfacing soon after confirmation of Snyman’s departure and it was only recently reported by L’Equipe that Snyman had agreed a deal with Bath for a total of £450,000 per year.

The move would see the star lock reunited with Johann van Graan who was responsible for bringing the Springbok to Munster in the first place when he was still coach of the Irish province.

Return to South Africa?

However, there are other reports emerging in South Africa with Rapport suggesting the Stormers are in for Snyman’s signature as well after the Bulls and Sharks were scared off by his massive price tag.

New equity partners Red Disa are reportedly hoping to throw in a competitive R13 million (in the region of £550,000) offer to lure the Springbok back to South Africa. The deal would be assisted by SA Rugby as Snyman is a Player of National Interest meaning the governing body will pay a portion of his salary – possibly up to R9 million.

The main concern is locating the funds in time as Red Disa’s equity deal has only recently gone through and implementation is still underway. This could be a big factor in how the transfer saga plays out.

It would be a massive signing for the Stormers and Snyman would add huge value to the free-flowing style of the Cape Town team, particularly with his impressive offloading ability.
